"Brown Pelican" by Debra Tritt Kreiger

12x18 watercolor on 300lb arches paper

This fellow is one of my favorite paintings. My research came from South Carolina. I always photograph my subjects and he was very co-operative. The research is as much fun as the painting. He was a older bird that I gave a more youthful appearance! The brown pelican is a amazing bird. contact me to purchase at debra@debkreiger.com.

"Harry" by Debra Tritt Kreiger

10"x14" watercolor on 260lb arches paper

This is Harry the blue heron I met in Hilton Head, S.C. He is a local fellow who comes for dinner every night at the local marina. He really posed nicely for me and my friends as we marveled in the presence of the wild existing peacefully with mankind. See in person at the Carlisle Arts Learning Center Exhibit(Shared Observations), 38 West Pomfret Ave., Carlisle, PA from May 19th - June 19th.

"Tiny Dancer" by Debra Tritt Kreiger

7"x10" watercolor on 140lb arches paper

This is a female ruby-throated hummingbird. Usually the males are painted because they are brighter and have the red throat. I decided to paint the female because she is just as beautiful!

"Kestrel" by Debra Tritt Kreiger

11"x15" watercolor on 140lb arches paper

I love to paint wildlife, especially when I actually get to meet my subject. I met this beautiful kestrel at the Charleston Aquarium. They call him Phoenix because his talons were burned when he landed on a live wire. His accident prevents him from being released back into the wild. He was a joy to see and talk to! In the wild he would be a little thinner, but I chose to paint him as beautiful as I saw him.
I also incorporated a new technique I learned from Luke Buck which really gives it a painterly feel.

"To Hear a Mockingbird" by Debra Tritt Kreiger

Watercolor 8.5" x 11" on 140lb arches paper

This painting has been on my to do list for awhile. While I was plein air painting in Gettysburg, this handsome, but sassy mockingbird seemed to be amused at what I was doing. He hung around and chatted awhile. Here he is on top a young apple tree in all his glory!

"Winter on the Susquehanna" by Debra Tritt Kreiger

"
"Winter on the Susquehanna" 11" x15" watercolor on 140lb arches paper

I've had these reference photos for some time and knew I wanted to paint this unusual scene. I came across this fellow on a very cold winter day off the shore of Enola. The Susquehanna river was cold, snowy and ice covered. This great blue heron was all fluffed out and ready to take a nap on the icy water. This was just amazing to see.

"Hanging On"By Debra Tritt Kreiger

Hanging On 3.5x5 watercolor on 140lb paper

This is a sweet little painting I did of  tiny sparrow hanging out on a rather windy day among the cattails! I had to really look for him because he blends right into the background. I believe this little bird is called a chipping sparrow. He has a wonderful song to sing.

Mother Robin By Debra Tritt Kreiger

"Mother Robin" 7.25"x10.25" Watercolor on 140lb Arches Paper

Just finished with this painting of a mother robin, who was in residence in our yard. She seemed very young and inexperienced as she made several nest in our tree. I placed her on a beautiful rose-of-sharon branch that I had photographed from our friend Petra's yard.
