Rainy days are my favorite painting days! What better way to think warmer weather than to paint natures beauty. Here are a couple of Spicebush Swallowtail butterflies I met on a painting adventure in a friends garden here in PA. I was happy to be able to paint with my friends from the SVPAP the last two Mondays. Thanks to Petra who was kind enough to share her wonderful property with us. I wanted to capture the wonderful sun light that was highlighting the bright red bee balm that was in full bloom. As the sun kisses little areas of the grasses, tree leaves and shows us the stumps and rock hiding in the shadows. The curve of the tree just framed everything perfectly. There is a stream flowing behind the flowers. Very peaceful!

"The Governors Fall Garden" 4"x6" Watercolor on 300lb paper

I couldn't resist painting this scene. The birch tree which had an unusual color, with its' bark shedding and the rich color of the berries and leaves. It was a cold day with not much sunshine but the colors in the garden were very warm!
