This fellow I met while we were on vacation in Kaua'i. There are Roosters and chickens running wild all over the island. They are not native to the island, but were brought for food. Here my research took me to Maui, in Hawaii. There the green sea turtles are thriving and you can see them come up on the beach everyday. You can see this painting at Brainvessel the Gallery in Hershey.

This is another favorite painting of mine. The research for this painting came from the Big Island in Hawaii. Like I said before, the research is as much fun as the painting. There are black sand beaches (which are amazing to see), and on top of that I saw my first green sea turtle. They are amazing creatures. The green sea turtle like so many animals are being killed prematurely by pollution in the ocean which they mistake for food (plastic bags that look like jelly fish). We all need to be more mindful. You can see this painting at Brainvessel The Gallery in Hershey.

Here is the mighty green sea turtle in all it's glory. I have been blessed to meet, photograph and artistically paint these magnificent and gentle giants. They come onto the beaches of Hawaii to bask in the the warm sun. How lucky I am to show case these creatures!

This is the finished green sea turtle I was painting at Brainvessel{The Gallery} during the Best Kept Secrets Tour. This is one of many green sea turtles I was fortunate to see on our last trip to Maui. I just have fallen in love with these magnificent creatures. All the sea turtles are endangered, and it is all because of mans careless habits. If we all stopped using plastic bags it would benefit all the ocean creatures. If we stopped dumping trash in the ocean that would be even better.

This is how I spent my Birthday this year! Just me and my hubby and the green sea turtles of Hawaii! I was visited by many green sea turtles on the beach of Maui! Happy to say there were lots of turtles, which is a good sign. This is a gift to my husband. Ten years ago we woke up to this view of Diamond Head in Oahu. What a awesome sight! The bonus was the two love birds sitting there enjoying the view. This has been on my to do list for a long time. It was challenging for me, but a good lesson in atmospheric painting!!

I have only seen a few green turtles in my life but they made a big impact on me. I was fortunate to photograph this green sea turtle basking on a beach on the Big Island in Hawaii. I used my photo references to compose this painting. Doing some more research I found that the Hawaiians call their green sea turtles honu. Hope you enjoy this painting.

If you've never experienced a trip to the top of Mauna Kea on the Big Island in Hawaii it is well worth the trip. Seeing a sunset above the clouds was an awesome experience. It is a challenge to reproduce the effects of mother nature in all her glory. I can say I'm truly blessed to be able to try.
